After the AGM in the morning we hope to be able to look around Whitby Museum in the afternoon (which has an amazing jet bead collection, as well as various pieces of tribal beadwork) and also have a talk from one of our members, Lynne Glazzard, about the local jet.
Her lecture - 'Whitby Jet: the Beauty of Black' will cover the history of jet which dates back to the Bronze Age and something which was highly valued in Roman culture. From the Victorian period through to the present day jet has been synonymous with Whitby .
The talk will look at the history of jet jewellery and ornaments and its relationship to the town of Whitby . It will be illustrated with examples from the extensive collection held in Whitby Museum .
